Founded by Rachel Doering in 1975, Rachel’s Restaurant and Bakery started out as a tiny bakery selling just a few classic items that can still be found in the window today, like chocolate chip cookies and Black Magic cake. By 1990 that tiny bakery had expanded to include a full restaurant, and both Rachel and her bakery had become staples in the Fire Island community.
It was Rachel who fought against a law that forbade people from eating on the sidewalks in Ocean Beach. The abolishing of that law means that people can now eat while walking around town. Which means you can have our bakery treats will strolling around Ocean Beach, Fire Island. Taking in the nice summer weather.
You can always find Rachel's goodies available at community events, too. And you can usually find Rachel herself in the middle of the dance floor at the annual Ocean Beach Community Fundraiser!
Renters and locals alike know that Rachel’s is the place to go to satisfy any craving. Whether it be a delicious family breakfast or a cookie at 4am to assuage those post-bar-crawl munchies (Yes we stay open until 4am daily!). People come from all over for a slice of the unbeatable crumb cake, sometimes even calling to request mailed deliveries off-island. But we do offer food takeout and delivery for people residing in the Ocean Beach area. So you can enjoy the pleasures of our treats at your convenience!
A Staple in the Fire Island Community For Decades!
After 43 years, Rachel has decided that she is ready for something new and she will be passing the torch onto her children. Joe Doering and Pam Grehan, along with their spouses Angela Doering and Kevin Grehan, will be taking over as co-owners of Rachel’s Bakery and Restaurant in Summer 2018. After undergoing a complete rebuild this past winter, Rachel’s will also have a whole a new look to reflect the passing of the torch. With the wall separating the restaurant and bakery gone, the space will feel much more open and airy. The high ceilings will stay, but the décor has also been updated to give it a younger feel. But even though part of our look may have changed, deep down we are still the Rachel's Fire Island Restaurant & Bakery that many have come to know and love!

There will also be some new items popping up in the bakery display case and on the menu from Pam and Angela’s personal cookbooks. But, don’t worry; all of the old Rachel’s bakery favorites will remain as well. We are keeping it in the family after all! Keep up with the news.
